MUSICAL SHOWCASE

MARKING PERIOD 1 | 9/2 - 11/17

Here you will find a showcase of student work and musical performances from our first marking period. Our students have been hard at work creating, performing, and responding to musical creations.

STUDENT WORK

KINDERGARTEN

ASYNCHRONOUS LEARNING

Kindergarteners have been learning about the different ways music can be described, applying it through songs, games, dances, and other interactive activities.

Asynchronous work for Kindergarten can be found at the link below, with a sample introduction video to the left.

1ST GRADE

MUSICAL CHARACTERISTICS

First grade is reviewing the characteristics of music, through song, dance, games, and other interactive activities.

The video to the right showcases RM 131 exploring musical dynamics with their bodies. Dyanmics are how loud or soft music is. The students move their bodies quietly around their rooms along to our Grizzly Bear song, jumping to the camera when the music changes volume.

4/5 MUSIC

MUSICAL MEANINGS + CHOIR

4th and 5th grade are exploring the ways in which music expresses meaning, and its impact as a vehicle for change.

Additionally our students are learning basic video and audio recording techniques, using these skills to put together a collaboratively created winter performance. To the left you will find a sneak peek video, created to practice our recording skills.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

MUSIC PRODUCTION

Grades 6-8 have been learning about the parts of a song, using this knowledge to mix together existing songs and remixing others. All students have access to BandLab for Education, an online digital audio workstation (DAW) that allows them to combine and adjust both original and pre-recorded audio tracks. The program is a mix of Google Classroom and Garageband, allowing individuals to collaborate on projects in a virtual class-like environment. (Perfect for distance learning!)

We have completed two "mini-projects" designed to develop basic DAW skills. To the right you will find a playlist of students' projects.

Mini-Project 1 was a mixing/rendering of the accompaniment, melody, and harmony from Corinne Bailey Rae's "Put Your Records On".

Mini-Project 2 builds upon these skills, having students create a unique drum track to accompany Dua Lipa's "Don't Start Now".
